Facts About Agodi Gardens That Will Shock You
Agodi Gardens is a tourist attraction in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Also known as Agodi Botanical Gardens and Agodi Gardens of Ibadan, the gardens are spread across 150 hectares.
Agodi Gardens (formerly Agodi Zoological and Botanical Gardens) was established in 1967. The gardens were destroyed in the 1980 Ogunpa flood disaster when most of the animals were swept away by the raging waters. The gardens were renovated by the Oyo State Government in 2012 and reopened in 2014.
In late September 2017, a zookeeper at Agodi Zoo was attacked by a lion. The zookeeper, Hamzat Oyekunle, popularly known as Baba Olorunwa, subsequently died from his injuries. The zoo was immediately closed down by the Oyo State Government.
